Luis Caputo will travel to Washington and meet with the IMF

The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, will meet again with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington as confirmed Ambit.

Within debt maturity payments but without review of goalsthe economy minister Luis “Toto” Caputo will travel to United States to meet with important IMF officials. According to reports, he will seek to unlock fresh funds for lift the trap in the coming months and continue to solidify the link with the organization regarding the economic and social direction of Javier Milei’s political project.

This meeting will take place in Washington, in the context of the Spring Meeting (corresponding to the Northern Hemisphere), in the days April 17, 18 and 19where finance ministers and bankers’ emissaries from all member countries of the organization meet, in order to debate and dialogue on issues of international relevance.

Beyond the intentions of the Argentine government to bring new fresh funds to get out of the trap, the IMF has shown itself skeptical and have looked with concern the adjustment in public accounts due to the governance risk that it entails. Without going any further, just a few days ago Rodrigo Valdés, director of the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stated that “it is still premature to discuss the precise modalities of the program” with Argentina and warned that “it is necessary to improve the quality of the fiscal adjustment, not the amount.

In this sense, the international credit organization will publish the new global perspectives for the economy, leaving a section for the “Argentine case”: an expectation of a recession of 2.8% and an average inflation of 250 percent in 2024.
