Aviation: Collective bargaining at Lufthansa continues

There has been peace on the ground since last week, but Lufthansa employees also want to see more money in the cabin.

After the agreement for ground staff, collective bargaining for cabin crew at Lufthansa is entering the next round. The Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO) union decided against another strike over Easter. It demands 15 percent more money for a contract term of 18 months for the approximately 18,000 flight attendants at Lufthansa as well as for their 1,000 colleagues at the regional subsidiary Cityline. The union also wants to achieve an inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros and higher allowances.

According to the union, negotiations will take place today in a secret location only for the employees of the parent company Lufthansa. Discussions for the Cityline are scheduled to continue separately in the middle of the month. The company did not want to confirm the discussions. Most recently, UFO paralyzed flight operations with a strike on March 12th.

According to the collective bargaining agreement presented, Lufthansa’s approximately 25,000 ground employees will receive salary increases of an average of 12.5 percent within two years as well as a 3,000 euro inflation compensation bonus. The agreement is still subject to a survey of the Verdi members, who had already voted in favor of an indefinite strike.

Arbitration will also begin this Friday for around 25,000 employees of private aviation security companies who check passengers, baggage, cargo and personnel at airports outside Bavaria on behalf of the Federal Police. Here, too, there have already been several waves of warning strikes.
