His succession in office could be made official in the coming days, even before the spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, which will be held from April 15 to 19 in Washington.

Traditionally, European countries nominate the general director of the IMF and the United States nominates the president of the World Bank (WB).

It is a system questioned by the main emerging countries, but the distribution of the capital of these two institutions favors the United States and the EU.

A year ago, the new president of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, was appointed following a similar procedure.
