Motorcycles: Harley-Davidson back in the black

The past few years have been difficult for Harley-Davidson and there has been a dispute with the Trump administration. Now the motorcycle manufacturer is back in the black.

The motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson is back on track after years of crisis and is back in the black. In the second quarter, the US company increased sales year-on-year by 77 percent to 1.5 billion dollars (1.3 billion euros).

The bottom line is that Harley-Davidson reported a profit of $ 206 million on Wednesday. A year ago, the balance sheet showed a loss of $ 92 million.

“I am satisfied with the pace of progress,” said Harley boss Jochen Zeitz. In the home market of North America, where the company struggled in recent years and was at times violently attacked by ex-President Donald Trump and his supporters because of controversial production relocations abroad, there was now a strong sales increase of 43 percent. However, the previous year’s results also suffered greatly from the Corona crisis.

Nevertheless, the quarterly figures were much better than expected on Wall Street. The share initially rose sharply before the market. Harley-Davidson also gave an optimistic business outlook, forecasting sales growth of between 30 and 35 percent for the current year. The traditional motorcycle manufacturer has been trying for some time to free itself from its dusty image with electric models and to address younger customer groups.
