In this way, since May 1, Mercado Pago, the main QR payment player must accept payment from other walletssomething that Marcos Galperín’s company always tried to block, while the banks have been demanding it since 2022.

“The date of April 30 remains firm. There are things to adjust, but that date is not going to move,” said the director of the Central Bank Pedro Inchauspe yesterday, as reflected by Infobae.
Regarding the possibility of Mercado Pago reaching an agreement with the banks or not, Inchauspe said that “the Central Bank is the regulator, it is not going to get involved in a commercial agreement. Compliance with a standard cannot be subject to a commercial agreement. We have made the effort to have all the actors seated at one table and the opening is not subject to that.
By not postponing the entry into force of the interoperable QR again, The Central Bank opens competition between Mercado Pago and banks for payment with QR card from any virtual wallet.
It is worth remembering that currently if the business has a QR code provided by Mercado Pago, it only accepts the cards loaded in its wallet and not those from other banks. In that sense, it was the banks that created the MODO wallet that in this way will be able to begin to compete on a somewhat equal footing with Mercado Pago.
