Gross external debt fell to $ 268,416 million in the third quarter

The decrease observed in the balance was mainly due to the drop registered in the debt of the General Government sector for US $ 3,664 million, product fundamentally to payment made to the IMF and transactions of financial instruments in the secondary market between residents and non-residents during the quarter under consideration, explained the body.

The external debt of the Non-Financial Corporations and Households sector also fell considerably, in this case by US $ 2,454 million.

On the contrary, the stock of gross external debt of the Central Bank increased by US $ 4,313 million, mainly due to the IMF’s Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) allocation procedure. Both the debt of deposit-taking corporations and of other financial corporations underwent modifications of much lesser magnitude.

On the other hand, Argentina registered a current account surplus of 3,287 million dollars in the third quarter, almost triple the positive balance registered a year ago, indicated the INDEC.

He added that the result is explained by the net income registered in the balance of goods and services for 5,743 million dollars, and secondary income for 335 million dollars, partially offset by the deficit observed in primary income of 2,791 million dollars.

In the same period of the previous year, the country reported a corrected surplus of 1,177 million dollars.

The current account registered in 2020 a positive result of 3,313 million dollars, according to official data.
