Conny Zhang is one of the most powerful women in the German music industry – as Head of Music at Spotify. In an interview, she reveals what music Germans are looking for on Spotify and which song she listened to 53 times in one day.
Ms. Zhang, is it true that you once wanted to become a musician?
This is a joke I tell often. There are two things that connect people in the music industry: the love of music and the lack of talent to do it professionally – that was the case with me too. When I was young, I sang, played the guitar and piano and also tried my hand at songwriting. The videos that I uploaded to YouTube back then are now private. And I quickly realized that I could use my love of music differently.
