Rossmann wants to invest significantly more in its drugstores this year. The branch network will continue to grow and the existing stores will be modernized.

The Rossmann drugstore chain is investing more money in its stores and wants to further expand its branch network. This year, 50 million euros will flow into 75 new stores in Germany alone, and a further 80 million euros will flow into the modernization of the existing 2,300 German branches, as the company from Burgwedel near Hanover announced on Thursday. DM and Müller’s competitor wants to invest a further 80 million euros in logistics.

“The expansion continues to not have a regional focus, but is aimed at a branch network that is easily accessible to customers in all parts of Germany,” the statement said. The company plans to open a total of 253 new stores this year, most of them abroad. Rossmann is also represented in Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Albania, Kosovo and Turkey and has been operating an online shop in Denmark since 2021. At the end of 2023, the chain had a total of 4,741 branches, of which 2,288 were in Germany. The most important market outside of Germany is Poland with around 1,800 branches.

Total investments are expected to rise to 390 million euros this year, 65 million euros more than in 2023. 230 million euros of this will be in Germany, 20 million euros more than in 2023. Last year, Rossmann’s sales increased by 14.4 percent to 13 compared to 2022 .9 billion euros, as the company announced in January. A good two-thirds of this came from Germany. At the end of 2023, Rossmann had a good 62,000 employees worldwide, 39,600 of them in Germany. As usual, the company did not provide any information on profits.
