Daidalos: stage for outstanding architecture in Upper Austria

The fifth edition of the Upper Austrian architecture prize “Daidalos” has been running since October 16. In the past few weeks, a number of architecture, planning and engineering offices have submitted exciting projects. The application deadline is January 16, 2022, the award ceremony will take place on March 31 in the Promenaden Galleries in Linz. Outstanding architecture in Upper Austria is given a stage. The categories are:

Valuable substance

Intelligent, functional and architecturally convincing building in existing buildings (renovation, expansion, redensification, spatial-functional redefinition, ecological optimization, etc.). Creation of contemporary, sustainable perspectives for existing buildings.

Refined new building

New buildings which, architecturally and functionally, make an innovative contribution to current construction activities. Convincing engineering structures and services as well as excellent infrastructure planning are also included.

Special award for tried and tested buildings

Buildings and plans that have already proven their special architectural quality and user-friendliness over a long period of use. In addition to individual buildings, contributions to the design of the square and town center, urban development measures and landscaping, park and garden design are welcome.

A top-class jury could be won for the Daidalos. Carmen Wolf is an architect in Munich, Stefanie Murero is an architect in Klagenfurt, and Georg Wilbertz is an architecture critic for OÖNachrichten.

The OÖNachrichten initiated the Daidalos. Partners are the Chamber of Civil Engineers for Upper Austria and Salzburg, Energie AG Vertrieb, Hypo Upper Austria, WAG, Province of Upper Austria and afo architekturforum Oberösterreich. The namesake of the architecture award, Daidalos, is a figure from Greek mythology and is considered the patron saint of builders and technicians. The labyrinth is his distinguishing mark, because Daidalos built it so masterfully for the Minotaur in Crete that he could hardly find it himself. The trophies of the Upper Austrian Architecture Prize are modeled on the labyrinth.
