In Russia, they will begin to build routes from waste

In Russia, they plan to massively use secondary material resources (SMR) for the construction of federal roads. The corresponding memorandum was signed by the Russian ecological operator (REO) and Rosavtodor. Izvestia got acquainted with a copy of the document.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko instructed to work out the issue.

According to the memorandum, by 2030, the use of waste in road construction should reach 30%, said Director General of REO Denis Butsaev.

“The federal project“ Circular Economy ”stipulates the use of 30% recyclable materials in road construction by 2030. We will carry out comprehensive work to create conditions for the use of BMP, ”he said.

According to Denis Butsaev, rubber crumb from recycled tires, compost from generated food waste, secondary polymers and other secondary resources will be used at the construction site.

“From a technical and environmental point of view, secondary resources should be used in such a way as not to degrade the operational and environmental characteristics of highways,” the Russian government said.

In Rosavtodor “Izvestia” was told that the use of recyclable materials is an urgent direction of increasing the economic efficiency of road activities, as well as improving the environment.

As foreign experience shows, up to 80–90% of secondary resources can be used in road construction. At the same time, the cost of building highways may decrease by tens of percent, said Alexander Ruchev, head of the commission on building materials of the public council under the Ministry of Construction, president of the Osnova GC.
