Work: Survey: Diversity and inclusion are important to job candidates

Compensation, job security, diversity: what is important to prospective employees? A survey provides information.

According to a survey, prospective employees care about diversity and inclusion in future employers. Around three out of four students and trainees surveyed said in a study published on Tuesday by the IU International University in Erfurt that it was very important or rather important to them that their future employer took action in this field.

This is “an important factor for companies, especially in the competition for the skilled workers of tomorrow,” the university said. Inclusion in the workplace usually means that companies ensure that people with disabilities are given the same opportunities as all other employees.

In addition, the university’s representative survey showed that job candidates are primarily looking at money and a secure job: around 76 percent named fair compensation as one of the aspects that are important when choosing employers. For 52 percent it was job security. Only one in four cited job content or work tasks as an important factor. 27 percent of those surveyed mentioned the geographical location. Multiple entries were possible.

The university surveyed 1,214 students and trainees in Germany aged 16 to 65 online in November and December 2023.
