In Iran, parliament has approved changes affecting the working week and weekly working hours.
In Iran, the working week will now start on Sunday. As state broadcaster reported on Wednesday, parliament approved a corresponding bill. At the same time, the regular weekly working hours are to be reduced from 44 to 40 hours. In the next step, the law will be presented to the Guardian Council, an ultra-conservative control body, and checked for constitutionality.
According to the Tasnim news agency, the new start of the week will come into force at the end of June. The country wants to position itself better, especially in terms of economic contacts with the world.
In Iran, the working week currently begins on Saturday, while Friday – similar to many other Islamic countries – is considered a day of rest. Some companies also give their employees Thursday off. Business representatives have often criticized that this regulation makes international business transactions more difficult. While the weekend is already beginning in many parts of the world, the new week is just starting in Iran.
