The Government included Starlink and satellite Internet can be purchased in 12 fixed installments

Through the DNU 70/2023 of deregulation of the economy, President Javier Milei released the services of satellite internet, a green light for Starlink, Elon Musk’s company that began operating in the country.

Resolution 69/2024 of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, published in the Official Gazette, indicates that “can be acquired” in 3, 6, 9 and 12 installments the kits for connection to satellite internet services “produced inside and outside the national territory.”

Musk’s company already provides its service in several countries on the continent, from Canada to Chile. Argentina is the seventh country in South America.

Simple quota: what it is and until when it will be valid

With resolution 7/2024, published in the Official Gazette, the Ministry of Economy formalized the new financing program that replaces the well-known “Now 12”. With a new name, the Government sought to distance itself from the previous administration, which promoted the measure.

With the extension of the program until December, The Government also had the update of the Financing limits of the following items: motorcycles, glasses and contact lenses, shows and cultural events; and medical equipment.

Besides, Simple Fee includes the following items: tourism, notebooks and tablets, appliances, lighting fixtures, bookstore items, bicycles, footwear and leather goods, mattresses, computers, durable kitchen items, clothing and musical instruments.

It also includes toys, books, machinery and tools, furniture, tires, accessories and spare parts, small appliances, perfumery, educational services, kits for home connection to water and sewer services, sports preparation services, repair services, motor vehicle and motorcycle repair shops, cell phones with 4G and 5G technology, televisions and monitors, construction materials and tools, personal care services, alarm installation services, and event and trade exhibition organization services.

The official Starlink site details how much it costs to acquire Elon Musk’s satellite internet service:

  • Deposit: $62,500
  • Monthly service: $62,500
  • Initial one-time payment for the equipment: $499,999
  • Shipping and handling: $31,000

Thus, installing the service for the first time costs $655,999. Likewise, this value may vary depending on the service plan desired:

  • Standard (ideal for homes): $62,500 per month
  • Priority (aimed at businesses and high-demand users): $217,350 per month
  • Mobile (for travelers, nomads and motorhomes): $87,500 per month regionally or $300,000 per month globally
