There are two extremes in the debate about children’s smartphone use: some see a generation that has been made fragile by technology. They point to studies that show that social media not only correlates with poor mental health, but actually causes it. Their solutions include banning social media for children under 16 and smartphones in schools. Instead, they want to encourage risky, physical play. The American author Jonathan Haidt has clearly formulated this position.
