The highest returns to retail investors in 2021 were brought by bitcoin, new buildings and shares of the American stock market. This is stated in the rating of the international audit and consulting network FinExpertiza (available to Izvestia).
Analysts calculated what nominal income could be obtained from investing 100 thousand rubles in various investment instruments at the beginning of 2021 with profit taking after 12 months. Most of all (for the second year in a row), risky investors who have made a bet on bitcoin are lucky. Over the year, the value of the world’s most popular cryptocurrency has grown by 75.4%.
Conservatives also managed to earn decent money, who preferred to invest in real estate, namely in new buildings – their income was 28.7%.
The third and fourth places in the rating of investment instruments with the highest annual returns were taken by American and Russian stocks. Those who at the beginning of the year invested 100 thousand rubles in shares from the S&P 500 list (for example, by purchasing shares in an exchange-traded fund linked to the index), by the end of the year, this amount increased to 129.5 thousand rubles. After tax, income would be about 25.7 thousand rubles (25.7%), according to the study.
At the same time, an investment of 100 thousand rubles in Russian shares with a similar approach of passive investment would bring about 16.5 thousand rubles after tax (the growth of the Moscow Exchange’s total profitability index, taking into account reinvested dividends, amounted to 18.9% over the year).
