Insurance companies also feel the effects of natural disasters. R + V is already reporting 82,000 claims for 2021 – and is assuming a new dimension of natural hazards for the entire year.

Natural disasters such as the floods in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia have brought enormous costs to R + V Versicherung. After the storm low in Bernd alone, 9,545 damage totaling 167 million euros had been reported, the company announced today.

“Above all, heavy storms occurring regionally with heavy rain, storms and hail caused devastating damage to our customers, especially in the last few weeks, which have made us very hard,” explained R + V boss Norbert Rollinger. A total of 82,000 claims totaling almost 387 million euros have already been booked this year.

For the entire current year, the insurance company assumes that the damage caused by natural forces will “reach a magnitude that R + V has never experienced in its almost 100-year history”. All available employees from all over Germany are currently working in the crisis areas. R + V is one of the largest insurance companies in Germany. The Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV) estimates the insurance damage after the flood in West Germany at up to five billion euros, as it announced on Wednesday.

In the first half of the year, R + V’s premium income in the German primary insurance business rose by 4.4 percent compared to the same period in the previous year to more than 9 billion euros. The reason is the good economy. Rollinger was cautiously optimistic for the year as a whole.
