Finance: Telekom share sale: KfW Bank wants to make billions

The Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau wants to sell 110 million shares in Deutsche Telekom. However, KfW and the federal government remain the largest shareholders in the group.

The federal development bank KfW wants to sell Telekom shares again and secure billions in the process. 110 million shares of the DAX group are to be sold to institutional investors, the bank announced after the stock exchange closed in Frankfurt. Based on the Xetra closing price, that would be almost 2.5 billion euros. On the Tradegate trading platform, Telekom shares fell slightly after the market closed.

With the planned sale, the federal government’s share in Telekom is likely to fall to 27.8 percent directly and indirectly via KfW. “KfW and the federal government remain the largest shareholders in Deutsche Telekom AG,” it said. In the second quarter, KfW had already sold 22.4 million shares on the market.

As of the end of 2023, the federal government, together with KfW, still held a good 30 percent of Telekom. The Japanese Softbank Group still held a 4.5 percent stake in the Bonn-based company at that time.
