Through Resolution 87/2024 of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) and published in the Official Gazette, the Annual Work Program 2024 for the organization headed by Marco Lavagna.
It is worth remembering that in March, INDEC announced the update of the consumer price index (CPI) with new weights in its basket of goods and services to bring it closer to the reality of consumption in the second decade of the 21st century. since they are based on the latest National Household Expenditure Survey (Engho), corresponding to the period 2017-2018.
The organization explains that these technical updates of the key indicator for Argentine sub-90s have been common throughout the last century. In fact, long before the creation of INDEC, in 1968, the statistical history records several studies of this type from 1924 to the 1980s, but with a smaller geographical scope.
Important points of the Resolution
Law No. 17,622 establishes that INDEC must plan, promote and coordinate the tasks of the National Statistical System (SEN). INDEC must prepare the annual program of national statistics and censuses.
INDEC approved its “Strategic Plan 2021-2026”, which establishes inter-temporal planning through triennial and annual work programs. The first three-year planning period of the Strategic Plan is 2021-2023, and the second is 2024-2026.
The triennial programs define the activities and projects of the period and aim to present the scope in terms of objectives, deliverables. Annual work programs They contain the detailed planning of projects and activities, with their indicators for monitoring and evaluation.
The objective of the consolidation of capacities is the continuous training of the human resources of the Institute and the National Statistical System (SEN). For example, the constant expansion of training programs, training in new applied technologies for statistics and a wide menu of courses taught by the Institute, toas well as by different international organizations, are some of the activities related to improving capabilities.
On the other hand, a fundamental step in a context of constant change and dynamics in the exploitation of large volumes of data is the incorporation of associated technology. For example, the development and expansion of the project is promoted Data Lake with the aim of achieving integration with administrative records and relate them to existing ones.
About data management
In relation to data management, the Institute is an active part of the discussions of the international statistical community, specifically in the United Nations Statistical Commission. These exchanges are focused on the leading role that National Statistics Offices should play. (ONEs) in the national data ecosystems and how they can provide greater institutionalization to the ONEs and strengthen the statistical map.
To achieve this, it is essential to promote an update of the statistical law that, based on experiences, international recommendations and a complete understanding of the reality of our SEN, grants the Institute a new legal framework that allows it to exercise, with complete institutional autonomy, the governing role of official statistics.
At the same time, it seeks to strengthen and guarantee access to alternative sources of data that contribute to making statistical production more efficient and extensive. Regarding the assurance of the quality of official statistics, actions are planned in accordance with the guidelines and implementation guides of the international statistical community. Among them, the development of a national strategy for the use of administrative records for statistical purposes stands out, as well as progress regarding the standardization of statistical processes.
