Negotiations on special corona regulations have remained inconclusive between Lufthansa and its pilots. This is now primarily affecting cargo connections to Asia.
Lufthansa is canceling well-booked cargo flights in the coming week because it cannot come to an agreement with its pilots. Connections to Asia are particularly affected, confirmed a spokeswoman for the Lufthansa Cargo freight division in Frankfurt today.
Around five percent of the flight schedule could not be served in the coming week. First, the portal «aero.de» reported that the negotiations with the staff representatives for the continuation of special corona regulations remained inconclusive.
These rules, which were no longer extended, had enabled the pilots to operate longer than what was agreed in the actual collective agreement. The so far very constructive talks on this should be continued, said the spokeswoman. According to information from the portal, the Lufthansa Group had taken an agreement that was ready to be signed off the table.
The background to this is the surplus of personnel at the corona-ridden aviation group, which had sent many pilots on short-time work. Up to 1500 of the 5000 captains and co-pilots from the group collective agreement could lose their jobs in the coming spring due to the lack of demand. Corresponding social plan negotiations are underway for the airlines Lufthansa Passenger Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo, according to information from both sides. The special corona agreements with the flourishing freight division are considered to be one of the few leverage used by the Vereinigung Cockpit union.
