The increase in the minimum wage was decided in November. Today the regulation comes into force.
The statutory minimum wage in Germany will rise to 9.82 euros per hour on January 1st. It is currently EUR 9.60. On July 1, 2022 there will be a further increase to 10.45 euros.
The increase was decided by ordinance in November after it had been proposed by the Minimum Wage Commission in June 2020. The minimum wage commission essentially consists of employer and employee representatives. The committee decides on the regular increase steps on the basis of the previous tariff development, which is determined by the Federal Statistical Office in the tariff index. Deviating from this procedure, the traffic light coalition wants to raise the minimum wage once in the coming year to 12 euros with a law.
