Crime: Cyberattack on DZ Bank’s real estate subsidiary

Hackers have carried out an attack on a fund subsidiary of DZ Bank. Tens of thousands of investors could be affected. Highly sensitive data is involved.

A real estate subsidiary of DZ Bank has fallen victim to a cyberattack. Tens of thousands of customers of DG Immobilien Management (DGIM) were affected, said a spokeswoman for DZ Bank in Frankfurt am Main. The exact number of those affected is still unclear. Data from DZ Bank customers was not affected, she said. The “Rheinische Post” had previously reported on this.

The DZ Bank and its fund subsidiary have formed a task force. “We are currently working on everything,” said the spokeswoman. The DGIM warned its customers in a letter that “investors’ personal data could have been leaked.” According to the report, not only address data, but also dates of birth, investment amounts, account details, tax numbers, notifications from the tax authorities and various correspondence and supporting documents could have been leaked.

The fund subsidiary is warning the affected investors about attempts at fraud using this data. DGIM belongs to the DZ Bank Group, which is the leading institution of the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken. According to the report, the investors purchased DGIM products via the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken.
