For Federal Minister of Economics Habeck, the economy in eastern Germany is the key to getting the country’s still sluggish economy back on track.
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) expects companies in eastern Germany to give a boost to the overall economic recovery. The Green politician told the newspapers of the Funke media group: “Economic growth is slowly emerging from the crisis – currently driven by the east.” Many people there are thinking about how to take new paths. “In Lusatia, in Schwedt, in Leuna and in many other places.”
Companies invest where conditions are good, said Habeck. East Germany is increasingly broadening its position in this area. Among other things, he pointed to major investments by Intel in Magdeburg, for example, which have a signaling effect for further investments.
The federal government is supporting Intel’s settlement with ten billion euros. The US company plans to produce in Magdeburg from 2027.
