A World War II bomb near the Tesla factory in Grünheide was detonated in a controlled manner on Saturday. The closure around the site has been lifted, said the head of the Grünheide public order office, Nico Bauermeister, to the German Press Agency. All residents and employees of the affected companies can return.

The 250 kilogram bomb was reported to the municipality of Grünheide on Wednesday by the bomb disposal service. It was considered untransportable and had to be detonated.

Several nearby industrial areas were evacuated for the explosion. Parts of the Tesla factory were also affected. However, according to a company spokeswoman, there will be no production there at the weekend anyway.

The discovery of the bomb also had no impact on the nearby Tesla protest camp, which is located in the same forest. Since the end of February, environmental activists have been protesting against the expansion of the Tesla site in a small settlement of tree houses and tents in the forest.
