Cola, lemonade and the like are always popular: After a slight slump during the Corona period, production will return to normal levels in 2023. A trend is emerging.
People in Germany are drinking more sugary soft drinks again. Last year, the amount of colas, lemonades and similar drinks produced domestically rose by 6 percent to 7.8 billion liters, according to the Federal Statistical Office. This results in per capita consumption of 93 liters per year.
Since 2020, statisticians have registered significantly lower quantities. In the long term, however, little has changed in the amount of sugary drinks: 7.7 billion liters were produced in 2013. Since then, the share of light variants has increased by almost 13 percent, accounting for almost 19 percent of the total in 2023.
In general, people are turning to water more often. In 2023, a total of 12.29 billion liters of mineral, table or medicinal water were bottled in Germany.
