The household appliance manufacturer Dyson is planning to cut jobs in Great Britain. Up to 1,000 jobs are to be eliminated, as the British news agency PA reported. This corresponds to more than a quarter of the jobs previously located there. Dyson is known for its bagless vacuum cleaners and also produces hair dryers and hand drying devices, for example.
“We have grown rapidly and, like all companies, we review our global structures from time to time to ensure that we are prepared for the future,” CEO Hanno Kirner told PA. “We are proposing changes to our organization that may lead to layoffs.”
The company has around 14,000 employees worldwide, and around 3,500 in the UK, according to the BBC. Dyson operates in increasingly competitive global markets, Kirner said. Decisions that affect close and talented colleagues are always particularly painful.
The technology company was founded by entrepreneur James Dyson, who, according to the Sunday Times, is one of the wealthiest people in the United Kingdom and was a supporter of Brexit. The company moved its headquarters to Singapore a few years ago. At the time, there were also plans to develop its own electric car. However, the plan was abandoned.
