The start of a major Deutsche Bahn project: one of the country’s most important train routes will be completely closed in order to undergo a general overhaul. The plan is risky – and doubts are growing.
The train leaves nothing out for the big performance a few days before the long-awaited start, which is supposed to finally make everything better. The train stops a good 60 kilometers from Frankfurt. The loudspeaker crackles, then the announcement follows: “Our train has come to a stop,” says a friendly voice, “unfortunately the onward journey is delayed indefinitely – there are several people on the track in front of us.” The train colleague from the Berlin headquarters who is traveling with us struggles to keep his composure.
