“There’s a holiday mood at our airport,” says the BER boss happily. Now, for the first time, a mark has been cracked at the capital’s airport.
For the first time, more than 50,000 passengers were counted in one day at the capital city airport BER. “The positive trend of the last few weeks continues during the holidays,” said airport manager Engelbert Lütke Daldrup.
“There is a holiday mood at our airport.” According to the airport, more than 51,000 passengers traveled via BER on Friday. Last year there were around 30,000 on the main travel days.
The figures are far from pre-crisis levels. During the summer travel in 2019, the airport company counted up to 120,000 passengers at the Berlin locations in Tegel and Schönefeld on the busiest days. BER was opened at the end of October 2020 with a nine-year delay in the middle of the Corona crisis. The number of passengers has plummeted because of the pandemic.
