Fire hazard: Mercedes calls back 800,000 cars

With a current shortage of spare parts, repairs could not be carried out immediately, the newspaper reported on Tuesday. Because of the possible fire hazard, the owners would have to leave their car behind.

A Daimler spokesman did not confirm the number on request. Mercedes-Benz Austria did not want to communicate any market-specific figures either, but named the affected series of diesel models of the SUV GLE, GLS, GLC and G-Class as well as of the C, E and S-Class. A leak in the coolant pump could not completely rule out a rise in the component temperature in individual cases, explained the passenger car subsidiary Mercedes-Benz.

The first batch of repairs is planned for mid / late January. Before the workshop appointment, the affected vehicles would have to “be driven particularly carefully and use restricted to the necessary minimum.”
