“If measures are taken, they should be clarified and communicated with those affected in good time,” said the Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV) on request. “A chaos like the one with the entry regulations is of no use to anyone and is a lose-lose situation for everyone.”
The further procedure in view of rising corona numbers is controversial in the tourism industry. The Kitzbühel tourism association chairman Christian Harisch is pushing for the K1 quarantine to be lifted for people who have been vaccinated twice or for a hard lockdown for tourism for at least one week from January 10th. Carinthia advertising boss Christian Kresse, on the other hand, warns of further lockdowns in tourism.
“Differentiated view of tourism”
The hotelier association advocates “a differentiated view of tourism”. Tyrol is not the same as Burgenland and hotels are safe places, this is also shown by the data. “The starting situation is different in the east and west. That means that we would like more scalpels than crowbars with the regulations or possible restrictions, i.e. more focus on the respective situation in the state than simply going over it in an undifferentiated manner,” said the ÖHV. One will “have to watch the situation closely over the next few weeks”.
Relaxation of the quarantine rules?
Demands for relaxation of the quarantine regulations come from the federal states as well as from the Chamber of Commerce and the hotelier association. The argument is that otherwise there is a risk that the whole country will come to a standstill. The Chamber of Commerce and the ÖVP-Wirtschaftsbund urged that those who have been vaccinated and recovered should be classified as K2 again at Omikron. Everything has to be done, “that economic life is largely kept going and supply-relevant productions and infrastructure are not endangered,” said the WKÖ. “Considerations such as shortening the quarantine, insofar as they are justifiable from a health policy perspective, are of course very useful in terms of maintaining operations,” said the ÖHV.
