Corona pandemic: Frankfurt cancels consumer goods fairs again

In the new year, too, the trade fair calendar has been thinned out considerably. Frankfurt continues to suffer from numerous cancellations and travel restrictions.

Due to the dynamic global pandemic, the Frankfurt exhibition company has again canceled its spring trade fairs for consumer goods.

This also includes the world’s leading trade fair “Ambiente”, which was actually planned for mid-February and was not able to take place last year. At the last edition in 2020, over 4500 exhibitors had used the platform on the entire Frankfurt exhibition grounds.

The stricter travel and contact rules also made the trade fair trio Paperworld, Creativeworld and Christmasworld impossible, as the trade fair company also announced. The willingness to travel globally is currently falling enormously. The regionally oriented “Nordstil” trade fair (January 15-17) in Hamburg, however, should take place as planned. Here one is in close coordination with the responsible authorities. The traditional “Heimtextil” trade fair kick off in Frankfurt had been canceled earlier.

The German trade fair company, which has been profitable for a long time and has the highest turnover, suffered again from numerous cancellations and travel restrictions as a result of the corona pandemic in 2021. According to the company, sales shrank to around 140 million euros, which corresponds to almost a fifth of the revenues from the pre-crisis year 2019. For the second time in a row, the company, supported by the city and the state of Hesse, had to put up with a three-digit million loss.
