Florida seems like a paradise for retirees: long beaches, mild winters – it’s not for nothing that the US state is also known as the Sunshine State. This seems to attract many Germans. According to the census, over 1.6 million people with German ancestors live in Florida, and there is said to be a large German community in many retirement homes. Anyone who emigrates there has a good chance of quickly finding connections. There are no figures for German retirees in Florida, but there are for the USA. The German pension insurance company transfers money to more than 21,000 Germans in the USA.
