Paramida, DJ at Berghain: “Women are allowed to be mediocre”

At 13, she attended her first rave, in the new podcast episode “The Boss” DJ and Berghain resident Paramida talks about her career and the gender battle in the music industry.

What do Tesla boss Elon Musk and US rapper Macklemore have in common? Both suffered a humiliating defeat at the entrance to Berghain, probably the hardest door in the world: “Unfortunately not today”. You missed the chance to hear Paramida’s DJ set. She plays four hours every month at Berghain in Berlin. She is the only German to be chosen by the BBC as one of the 100 most inspiring and influential women.

In the new episode of the stern podcast “The Boss” Paramida host Simone Menne tells how she “Zeitgeist on the dance floors” She doesn’t need anything new for that: “What makes me special is that I actually only play old pieces”She is extremely well prepared, especially the more complex the music is. In the club it is not enough to play a finished program. She speaks of a “Art of DJing”. That is why her free time revolves around vinyl records, CD DJs and music curation – a “seven day job” even.

More than only DJ at Berghain

But Paramida is more than “only” DJ in the world famous techno club. Ten years ago she founded her own record label “Love on the Rocks”. She is now also a producer. Simone Menne and she talk about why she decided to become self-employed with her music: “Nobody has ever actually opened a door for me. I have worked hard for everything. Nobody can take that away from me”.
