NRA estimates average annual inflation in 2022 at 6%

Inflation in the first quarter will be about 7.7%, and the average annual inflation in 2022 will be slightly above 6%. Alina Rozentsvet, Director General of the National Rating Agency, shared these forecasts in an interview with Izvestia.

“It should be noted that there are quite a few factors of uncertainty, largely associated with international trends: with global inflation, with how the central banks of other countries cope with such unusual for them high rates of price growth. Noteworthy is the fact that even the transition to a low-carbon economy carries the risks of a global spiral of inflation. First, an abrupt cessation of investment in “brown industries” in the absence of substitutes for many years can lead to a shortage of these goods and an increase in their prices. These expectations have already been translated into an increase in prices for coal, gas and oil, ”explained Alina Rozentsvet.

She added that in addition to “imported” inflation, there are also a number of Russian pro-inflationary factors. For example, the transition to escrow financing and cheap mortgages affect the rise in prices in the housing market; negative production dynamics and high food prices are pushing up the cost of food; “Unrooted” inflationary expectations lead to “inflationary spillovers”.

According to preliminary estimates of Rosstat, annual inflation in 2021 in Russia was 8.39%.
