An expert study commissioned by the Alliance against Audiovisual Piracy He stated that “four out of ten Argentine households connected to the Internet consume pirated audiovisual content”while “in the last two years the number of people who have fallen victim to hacker attacks and financial fraud has tripled.”

The report states that “there are 4,835,796 Argentine households that consume these pirated contents and among them, those linked to illegal broadcasts of football matches predominate.”

“In 2022, one in ten people connected to the Internet suffered some type of hacking attack, whether by viruses, Trojans or other methods. In 2024, three in ten people will already be affected by scams. The impact has tripled,” he warned. Jorge Bacaloni, President of the Alliance.

Piracy of audiovisual content on the Internet is a crime perpetrated by criminal organizations with extensive capacity in Latin America, which generate losses of around US$10 billion annually to individuals, families, companies, sports clubs and governments.

“The organizations behind the domains and other access points to illegal content work in a coordinated manner and with extensive technical capacity, in addition to being able to operate under brands recognized by users across different geographies,” warned a recent report by the Center for Telecommunications Studies of Latin America (Cet.la).

Warning about the level of pollution of search engines

The survey carried out by Cet.la during 2023 measured the level of pollution in search engines and showed that “17% of search results for keywords related to audiovisual content were classified as illegal.”

“In 2023, approximately one in two visits to sites with audiovisual content was to an illegal domain,” Cet.la noted. The report states that people who consume online piracy “face inherent risks, including exposure to malware, viruses, phishing attempts and inappropriate content.”

“This is a situation that Interpol is also warning about because pirated content can be used as a trap for the theft of personal data, banking information or credit card fraud,” he stressed. Bacaloni.
