Transport: Railway boss also travels by car and plane

For business trips, railway boss Lutz usually uses the train. But occasionally he switches to other means of transport – for example, when there is a strike.

Last year, Deutsche Bahn boss Richard Lutz switched to the car for seven business trips. He also used the plane three times. This is evident from the Federal Ministry of Transport’s response to a parliamentary question from the Union faction.

Citing Deutsche Bahn, it states that the members of the Group’s Executive Board would have generally made their business trips by train in 2023. “Only if the general conditions did not allow otherwise was another means of transport used as an alternative.”

The reasons given were strikes by the railway unions EVG and GDL as well as trips abroad – “or if the business trip was not compatible with a train journey due to important appointments beforehand or afterwards, or if overnight stays were to be saved”.
