During the New Year holidays, the most significant growth in sales in terms of money was demonstrated by the entertainment sector – Russians spent 57% more on museums and exhibitions than last year. Such data was provided to Izvestia by the largest operator of fiscal data in Russia, Platform OFD.
Dentistry services were also in great demand – an increase of 35%, and trips to fast food establishments (fast food) – by 27%. Significant growth was also observed in sales of electronics and household appliances – by 20%. In the field of tourism, the Russians preferred, according to ATOR, hotels and hotels 4-5 stars in ski resorts. Consumers were least interested in shopping for clothes and shoes during the holidays.
During the New Year holidays from January 1 to January 9, 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, sales in monetary terms in the entertainment sector showed the greatest growth: to museums and exhibitions – by 57%, cinemas – by 32%. Sales of dental services also increased – by 35%, purchases in fast food – by 27%, in restaurants and bars – by 24%. At the same time, the average check also increased, for example, when going to cinemas – by 8%, to museums and exhibitions – by 21%. When buying dental services, the average check jumped by 23%, fast food – by 28%.
“On New Year’s holidays, the growth in sales in money was, according to our data, even higher – by 30%,” said Yuri Levitas, CEO of Black Star Foods and founder of Free Dog and Free Pizza.
According to the president of the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT) Artem Sokolov, during the New Year holidays it is traditionally a high season in e-commerce. Every year, during this period, there is an increase in consumer demand in general by 2-2.5 times, he noted. Smartphones and wireless headphones, baby products, and food are on the top this year. Moreover, in this category, the most rapid growth is noted by retailers in the delivery of ready-made food, the expert added.
The analysts of the OFD Platform associate a significant increase in sales in most product categories with the fact that in 2021 people began to return to their usual way of life, having adapted to living conditions with the restrictions associated with the pandemic.
