The work of branches and ATMs of Sberbank throughout the territory of Kazakhstan has been restored at the moment, almost all of them are functioning normally. Izvestia was informed about this in the press service of the company on Tuesday, January 11.
“The full restoration of the work of branches and the ATM network is taking place as the situation in Kazakhstan stabilizes, and the ATMs damaged during the riots will be replaced with new ones in the very near future,” the organization noted.
They also emphasized that the depositors’ money was saved in full, including due to the fact that Sberbank ATMs are equipped with modern heavy-duty safes and security technologies.
Prior to that, on January 9, it was reported that the operation of the Sberbank mobile application in the republic was restored.
Protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2. Participants of the rallies opposed the rise in prices for liquefied gas. The actions soon escalated into riots. The situation has worsened the most in the country’s largest city – Alma-Ata. The protesters, among whom, according to the authorities, were extremists, broke into the administration building, set fire to the prosecutor’s office, the office of the ruling party and seized the presidential residence.
The criminals ransacked the offices of five TV channels, tried to attack the pre-trial detention center and attempted to enter the territory of a military unit in the Aktobe region.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appealed to the CSTO (the organization includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan) for help in overcoming the terrorist threat. Peacekeepers were sent to the republic for a limited period of time. On January 11, the head of state approved the new composition of the government of the republic. On the same day, he announced the end of the CSTO mission in Kazakhstan. According to him, the main task of the peacekeepers has been completed successfully.
