Deutsche Bahn: Wissing calls on Deutsche Bahn to develop a restructuring plan

The dilapidated rail network is to be renovated in the coming years. However, the state-owned railway company is not in a good financial position. The federal government now wants to take countermeasures.

Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing has called on the state-owned Deutsche Bahn to come up with a restructuring plan. The operational figures must be improved, said the FDP politician in Berlin. Adjustments in the economic and organizational areas are urgently needed. Wissing pointed to losses in freight and long-distance transport, for example.

The minister also called on the railway to take measures to significantly improve punctuality in the “short term” while the infrastructure is being renovated. DB Fernverkehr must make better use of its trains in order to return to economical and sustainable operations. Punctuality is in a very poor state and the railway’s reliability is not satisfactory, said Wissing.
