The Russian operation known as “Doppelgänger” spreads anti-Western disinformation to undermine support for Ukraine – and is increasingly expanding its tools of manipulation
In France, there were recently half a dozen videos: They were labeled Netflix, and a fake voice of Tom Cruise was making fun of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The professionally made ten-minute films are part of a whole series of fake French websites that can be traced back to Russian manipulators. They mostly belong to a now extensive network called “Doppelgänger”, which at least the European Union (EU) associates directly with government agencies in Moscow.
