The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing significantly improved its order balance last year thanks to a comeback of the crisis pilot 737 Max and a recovery in the aviation industry from the Corona crisis.
According to its own information, the Airbus rival received a total of 909 aircraft orders on Tuesday in 2021 – more than twice as many as in the two previous years combined. Taking into account cancellations and rebookings, the bottom line was 535 orders. The day before, Airbus announced 507 net orders for 2021. Boeing was thus back in front for the first time since 2018.
However, the Europeans defended their top position in terms of deliveries by a wide margin. Last year, Airbus handed over 611 commercial aircraft to customers, while Boeing only had 340. The US group received a boost from cargo planes and the lifting of take-off bans for the medium-haul jet 737 Max, which was not allowed to take off until November 2020 after two crashes with 346 deaths . However, Boeing was slowed down by new problems with the 787 “Dreamliner” model. The long-haul jet has not been able to be delivered for months due to production defects.
