Economist Vladislav Ginko on Wednesday, January 12, commented on the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to index pensions in Russia above the inflation rate.
“I will remind you that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, as the guarantor of the Constitution, by his decision emphasizes the importance of the Basic Law of the country and the social function of the state enshrined in it, ”RT quotes Ginko as saying.
He noted that the president’s proposal to index pensions above the growth rate of consumer prices can be regarded as “an additional step that the state is demonstrating.”
“If there is an opportunity to increase pension payments in this way, then the state will certainly do it,” the economist concluded.
Earlier that day, at a meeting with members of the government, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed indexing pensions above the inflation rate – by 8.6%. The head of state noted that earlier decisions would not allow pensioners to cover costs due to inflation.
Elena Bibikova, deputy chairman of the Federation Council (SF) committee on social policy, said that the law on indexing pensions above the inflation rate would be adopted by the end of January this year. She added that after the indexation, the average pension in Russia will grow by about 1.4 thousand rubles.
On December 13, it became known that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Russia is preparing new proposals for the indexation of pensions in 2022. It was noted that taking into account the indexation of pensions already carried out in January 2021 in the amount of 6.3% and a lump sum payment, the size of these pensions increased by 11.1%, which exceeded the current inflation in 2021.
On November 20, it was announced that the new rules for the payment of pensions came into force on January 1, 2022. According to the innovations, the payment and delivery of pensions in the territory with the introduced emergency regime can be earlier. In addition, Russians will now be able to choose how to receive payments: through the post office or another organization.
