Sony announced the long-awaited PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro) on Tuesdaya new version of the PlayStation 5which went on sale in 2020. The video game console will be released on November 7th and it has a great resemblance to the digital version of the original, but logically much more powerful.
Mark Cernythe lead architect of the PS5 Pro, confirmed the news after months of rumors. According to his statements, the new console will improve on its predecessor with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and custom scaling powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
“It’s the most powerful console we’ve ever built”said Cerny, who also detailed that the hardware improvements inside will result in 45 percent faster rendering, which would imply improved detail in certain games and frame rates. With this, they aim to the user has to stop choosing performance modes instead of fidelity modessince according to the designer, they do so ”approximately three-quarters of the time.”

With this additional potential, ray-traced games are also improved, which could be projected “at double, and sometimes triple, the speed of the current console.”
Another new feature is the function PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)which will be powered by Sony AI. It will improve the frame rate and image quality of PlayStation games, designed for replace the implementation of temporal “anti-aliasing” or “upsampling” that exists in a game.

Cerny showed off some of the games that will be able to run on Sony’s new console, as well as an option called ”Game Boost”, which will be applied to Over 8,500 compatible PS4 games with previous versions for PS5 Pro, which “may stabilize or improve the performance of PS4 and PS5 games” that can be used.
As for the titles, Cerny highlighted the The Last of Us Part II with more details and reach 60 frames per second (fps) instead of the 30fps fidelity mode on PS5. Games like Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will have similar fidelity graphics at high-performance frame rates.

The games will need patches to take advantage of some of the PS5 Pro’s features, and Sony assured that developers are preparing free software updates for existing titles that will be labeled as PS5 Pro Enhanced games. The console will also support Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, VRR and 8K resolutions.
