The Supreme Court again summoned Jorge Macri and Luis Caputo to reach an agreement

The head of the Buenos Aires government, Jorge Macriand the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputowere again summoned by the Supreme Court of Justice for next Wednesday, September 18, to seek to reach an agreement for the co-participation of the city of Buenos Aires.

Despite the insistence of City, There are still differences with the Government on the form of payment of the 2.95% of resources that correspond to the Buenos Aires district, according to the injunction of the Court which established this in December 2022.

The meeting next Wednesday between officials from the government of President Javier Milei and the city of Buenos Aires will not be the first, as meetings have been held since January to resolve the conflict.

Co-participation: tension between the nation and the city continues

“The good thing is that the Nation and the City will go to the Court with a proposal for a definitive agreement to close the issue once and for all. That is good because the Court generally expects that the problems generated by politics will be resolved by politics and not the other way around. So what could not be resolved in previous administrations we can resolve now,” Macri had assured during an interview after the last meeting with the Minister of Economy.

During the last hearing on the matter, in which Caputo did not participate, the head of government said that the parties were unable to reach an agreement.

“There are several discussions. The Nation decided, starting the first week of August, to start making discretionary payments. For us That is not complying with the Court’s ruling.“, explained Macri.

In this regard, he emphasized that the highest court ordered the Nation to pay “2.95 per drop” and stated that “that is not being fulfilled.”

The conflict began in December 2022, after the Supreme Court issued a precautionary measure in favor of Ciudad to reverse former President Alberto Fernández’s decision to cut shared funds to the federal capital.

The resolution of the highest court of Justice set a percentage of 2.95% which was to be accrued automatically while the substance of the matter was being decided. That transfer never took place: neither during the last year of Alberto Fernández’s administration, nor with the entry of Javier Milei to the Government House.
