Sony Pictures released the last trailer before the premiere of Venom: The Last Dancethe final film in the villain trilogy of Spider-Man.
Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock, better known as the brain-eating, symbiote villain Venom.
Sony is promoting “The Last Dance” as “the final film in the trilogy.” According to the logline, “Eddie and Venom are on the run. Pursued across both their worlds and with the grid closing in, the duo is forced to make a devastating decision that will bring down the curtain on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”
In the trailer, Eddie and Venom meet the town’s newest character, or rather, the enemy from outer space, Knull. There’s plenty of symbiote action, plus a scene where Hardy rides a super-fast Venom-esque horse. The film follows Venom (2018), which became a box office surprise, earning $856.1 million worldwide. Hardy followed up with Let There Be Carnage (2021), which grossed over $506.8 million at the box office, a solid result considering it was released amid pandemic challenges as well as a general weakening of the superhero movie market.
The franchise has been an atypical success for Sony, as it attempted to build a universe of films based on supporting Spider-Man characters to which the studio has the film rights. Films such as Morbius (2022) and Madame Web (2023) grossed significantly less than Hardy’s films, and “The Last Dance” will test continued appetite for the franchise after several years of big-budget superhero movies struggling at the box office.
Venom: The Last Dance stars Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen GrahamThe film is directed by Kelly Marcel from a screenplay written by her, based on a story by Hardy and Marcel. The film is produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy and Hutch Parker.
Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters October 24.
