What does “The Great Seal” mean on dollars?
The Great Seal is the name given to the symbol used by the State Department. to print on the banknotes the symbol that refers to the history of the birth of the United States. And it was used for the first time in 1905.
Obverse of the Great Seal: The most prominent feature is the bald eagle holding the shield, which is composed of 13 red and white stripes which represent the 13 colonies that gained independence from Great Britain to become the first states of the North American territory. The motto E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, One) also appears, alluding to this union. The olive branches and arrows symbolize the power of war and then of peace.
Reverse of the Great Seal: The pyramid signifies strength and endurance, while the eye in it and the motto Annuit Coeptis mean “God has favored our undertakings.”Finally, below is the date of the Declaration of Independence and the words Novus Ordo Seclorum, meaning a new order of the ages, referring to the new American era that began in 1776.
