The Commission of Private Houses had agreed to meet this week (more precisely on Wednesday 18) to review the possibility of a new adjustment. However, the meeting was suspended and now we will have to wait until the next few days to find out whether or not they will achieve an update of salaries.
The meeting could take place on Tuesday, September 24 or Wednesday, September 25, and it is expected that at that meeting they will be able to close an agreement for September and October 2024.
So things stand, for now, this month will remain unchanged after the last salary agreement which had a 13% adjustmentdistributed as follows: 8.5% for July and 4% for August. Although at first glance it looks like a 12.5% increase, as it is a cumulative increase, the total adjustment percentage is higher. When doing the calculations, it must be kept in mind that, just as for July salaries, those of June were taken; for August salaries, the values of the seventh month of the year must be taken. And for September salaries, those of the seventh month of 2024.
For hourly employers, however, there should be no change compared to last month.
On August 22, a meeting was held to discuss the formalization of travel expenses. That day, the union representatives presented a note on the topic of travel expenses and also requested a national dissemination, awareness and registration campaign. “The note was formally presented to the Labor Secretariat, and is now being studied by the ministry,” said Carlos Brassesco, representative of the Union of Auxiliary Personnel of Private Homes (UPACP).
Two increases confirmed for October
Starting in October, domestic workers who receive the Universal Child Allowance (AUH) will see a 4.2% increase in their monthly payments. This update, still pending officialization in the Official Gazette (BORA), is added to the benefits of the Social Rate, which offers discounts on train and urban bus fares. As for the Social Rate, this grants discounts to users of public transport, including trains, buses and subways.
