Italy, Great Britain and France were recently known for political instability and weak economies. Now their economies are growing. Why not in Germany?
In recent months, news about the German economy has been shaped by feelings that many Germans have repressed for years: defeat and envy. At the beginning of the year, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) stated: “Germany is falling behind because growth is lacking.” Business journalists once again wrote about the “sick man of Europe” and the economic forecast of the German Economic Institute (IW) in May was entitled: “(Almost) everyone is growing, but Germany is not.”
