The Chambers representing companies motor transport will meet this Tuesday, September 24 with the Union of Motor Transport (UTA) and the Department of Labor to define the collective bargaining. The employers’ association will say that has nothing to offer knowing that this could lead to a union conflict. The meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. via Zoom.
Tuesday of negotiations. Once again, the outcome will depend impact on the worker’s pocket: The discussion this time has to do with the possible salary arrangement and the ways of paying it. The options are always three: more subsidies, increase of rates or reduction of the frequency of the service.
On this occasion, the parties will meet to negotiate the collective agreement. The UTA is asking for an increase in $100,000 to bring the basic to $1.16 million.
A strike on the horizon?
The response of the chambers could give rise to a reaction from the union sector: “We have nothing to offer”, they say. This is because, according to them, last week they were summoned by the Ministry of Labor and warned that there was no offer for the union”because the companies’ income is the same”.
“Today we are going to give the same answer. We cannot move forward in the collective bargaining agreement if we are not sure how the evolution of the income of the companies will continue., whether through tariffs or subsidies“, explains a source in a voice-over.
In August, the union led by Roberto Fernandez agreed to pay a non-remunerative sum of $100,000on account of a future collective bargaining agreement. Now, it remains to discount it once the number is closed.
The UTA asks to bring the basic to $1,160,000not counting travel expenses or any other eventual sum paid only in September. In total, it would represent an expenditure of $6.85 billion (adding social charges) for the 50,000 bus drivers expecting a pay rise.
Companies are considering a ticket increase
How to deal with a possible salary settlement? If the option is not a greater injection of subsidies, the chambers propose a minimum ticket in $1,057so that the average is $814. That amount, added to the subsidy of $600would reach the frequently mentioned number: $1,400.
However, they also understand that the transfer of negotiations to the tariff disrupts the disinflationary objective. They are not going to raise the minimum ticket price to $1000 or even close.that’s why we want to know what intermediate number they decide to leave it at and see what we can do with that,” they admit to this medium.
It is because of the dichotomy between subsidies and inflation that the Government is not making a decision, according to the business community. Meanwhile, They anticipate an open door to conflict with the UTA or a reduction in service due to the gap between operating costs and income received.
The second meeting will be Tomorrow at 6pm with the Undersecretary of Transportation of the Nation, Ignacio Plencovichto define what the employers’ association will be able to offer based on the provision on rates and subsidies authorized by the Government, in the framework of the transfer process of the 31 bus lines that operate in CABA to the jurisdiction governed by the head of the Buenos Aires government, Jorge Macri.
