Collective bargaining dispute: All-day strike on cash transport

Verdi has called for a strike in the transport of cash and valuables. Only one federal state is not affected.

The Verdi union has called for a day-long strike in the cash transport industry. Verdi announced that all federal states would be affected this Monday with the exception of Baden-Württemberg.

The background is the collective bargaining negotiations for around 10,000 employees in the transport of money and valuables. In the second round of negotiations on September 20th, the Federal Association of German Money and Valuable Services (BDGW) did not present an acceptable offer either.

Verdi wants to put pressure on employers

“Instead, the employers stuck to their demands to worsen working conditions,” said Verdi negotiator Sonja Austermuehle. Newcomers, for example, should get fewer vacation days. Now the pressure on employers should increase before the next round of negotiations on October 17th and 18th in Munich. According to Verdi, the companies Ziemann in the banking metropolis of Frankfurt and Prosegur in nearby Neu-Isenburg are affected by the strike.

The union demands that all times exceeding eight hours per working day be paid with overtime pay. In addition, it requires a nationwide holiday bonus and Christmas bonus each amounting to half of the gross monthly salary and a holiday entitlement of 31 days based on a 5-day week for all employees.

The employers’ association has already defended itself against criticism from Verdi. Currently, the basic wage in the money and valuables industry nationwide is between 15.73 and a good 18 euros per hour and in the money and valuables transport between 18.47 and 21.18 euros – without any surcharges. This means that the industry is already far away from the legal minimum wage.
