Lusatia is affected by the phase out of lignite. The Federal Structural Strengthening Act is now taking effect here – with a major Deutsche Bahn project.
Deutsche Bahn is speeding up its major project in Lusatia: The new railway plant in Cottbus is coming much earlier than previously planned. According to the company, construction should start in the coming year instead of 2023.
Preparations for this, such as the exploration of the building site, were already underway, as DB CEO Richard Lutz announced in Cottbus when the plans were presented.
The first ICE trains will be serviced in Lusatia as early as 2024. By then, Deutsche Bahn intends to hire more than 500 new employees, and another 700 new jobs are to be added by 2026. The plant is the first major project to be financed on the basis of the Federal Structural Strengthening Act. Investments of one billion euros are planned from this.
The federal and state governments support the regions affected by the coal phase-out in Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and North Rhine-Westphalia in building new economic structures.
